Frat Deals Money to Charity - 2004-02-09
Students put on their best poker faces Sunday and tried to call, raise and bluff their way to winning in Zeta Phi Rho's first yearly charity poker tournament.

At least 100 amateur card sharks paid $15 each to play in the tournament, which began at noon in Corwin Pavilion and lasted until about 6 p.m. All the proceeds from the tournament will go to the Rewarding Our Youth and Future Leaders (R.O.Y.A.L.) scholarship fund. The fund was created by Zeta Phi Rho alumnus Romeo Garcia, and awards a scholarship every year to a child that grew up in Isla Vista.

Thomas ices title - 2004-02-09
Charley Thomas likes a crowded house and, just like poker, a full house was what he was looking for. Plenty of rocks were in play as Thomas beat Airdrie's Derek Chyz 9-4 in the men's A final yesterday during the Optimist Southern Alberta juvenile (under-17) playdowns at the Springbank Curling Club.

Thomas and his rink of third Brock Virtue, second Matt Ng and lead Cameron Rustad needed only seven ends to earn a berth into the provincial championships in Innnisfail, Feb. 27-29.
