Video-poker industry has lot riding on monitoring decision - 2004-02-08
Within a few months, State Police will make a decision that could be expensive for Louisiana's video-poker operators - and might force some out of business.

Although the issue is far from the public eye, an industry lobbyist compares it to the 1996 referendums in which parishes voted on whether to outlaw the gambling machines.

The state is looking at four systems for monitoring the machines on a statewide basis to avoid tampering and to make sure taxes are paid. If the current system operator, International Game Technology, wins the contract, there's no problem.

Eddie George Wins Celebrity Poker Tournament - 2004-02-08
One of the more under publicized, yet star-studded events Super Bowl weekend took place at the famous rib place of Hall of Famer Clyde Drexler in north Houston with an impromptu celebrity poker match.

Rumor had it that the Hilton sisters and Moses Malone, a Philly basketball great, would be at Drexler's BBQ. The Hilton sisters were no-shows as was Moses, but the draw of the Texas Hold 'Em poker still brought some big time entertainment, athletic and professional poker icons to the table.
