Event raises money for Fair - 2004-02-07
Dice rolled and bets were placed at the Galveston County Fair and Rodeo’s 14th annual Las Vegas Night, Friday.

Approximately 100 people came out to gamble and eat barbecue in the Youth Building at Jack Brooks Park on state Highway 6 in Hitchcock.

The event was a fund raiser for the Galveston County youth. Danette Anselmo, assistant fair coordinator, said the event raised $3,000 last year and she expected to raise $5,000 to $7,000, this year.

Country music played in the back ground has people played black jack, poker, roulette, “wheel of fortune” and craps, and tried their luck at the slot machines.

Gov. Treads Murky Waters On Gambling - 2004-02-07
The General Assembly's champions of gambling presented a substantial expansion plan Thursday.

Rep. Lou Lang, D-Skokie, and Sen. Denny Jacobs, D-East Moline, want more capacity for casinos, slot machines at horse racing tracks, two more casino licenses for Chicago and southern Cook County, and legalized video poker gambling.

It's the same plan they formulated last spring.
