Police: Gambling den still operating - 2004-02-12
Indianapolis police have investigated a car wash they say is a front for an illegal gambling operation on at least four separate occasions over the past two years, but the business continues to operate and no one has been charged with a crime.

In one of the most recent investigations of the 38th Street Car Wash, 148 W. 38th St., police officers found City-County Council Majority Leader Monroe Gray Jr. and Center Township Constable Mark Anthony "Tony" Duncan -- both elected Democrats -- sitting in a city-owned car in the business's parking lot, according to a police report.

Stadium gambling omission upsets senator - 2004-02-12
The top Senate Republican criticized Gov. Tim Pawlenty's stadium commission Wednesday for rejecting expanded gambling as a funding source for new Twins and Vikings stadiums.

Senate Minority Leader Dick Day, R-Owatonna, aimed his fire at the panel's chairman, Dan McElroy, who is also the Republican governor's chief of staff. McElroy was presenting the commission's final report to the Senate Local Government Operations Committee.
