Lottery board will hold hearings on retailers' cut - 2004-02-10
The Oregon State Lottery Commission will organize public hearings this week on the compensation retailers receive for possessing video poker machines.

Commissioners are considering lowering the rate as they set terms for a new six-year contract with retailers starting in June.

Retailers receive, on average, 32 percent of net proceeds from video poker; that amounted to about $159 million last fiscal year. A recent survey by the secretary of state's Audits Division shows Oregon pays a bigger cut than similar lottery operations, all based in Canada.

Aristocrat to fight US allegations - 2004-02-10
Australian poker machine provider Aristocrat Leisure Ltd has sworn to fight allegations its Hyperlink jackpot gaming machines infringe a US patent.

In another blow to the company, Australian and US subsidiaries have been served with a complaint in the Nevada District Court on behalf of a US-based individual.

"The plaintiff alleges, amongst other things, that Aristocrat's Hyperlink progressive jackpot gaming machines infringe a US patent," the company said in a statement.
