NI man jailed over friend's death - 2004-02-10
An east Belfast man who killed his "only true friend"
in a drunken dispute over a dog was sentenced for eight years in jail today on condition he serves a further three years probation upon his release.

The 41-year-old alcoholic Robert McClurg had pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of his 38-year-old neighbour and friend Glen Irvine on the grounds
of diminished responsibility.

The father of two confessed to detectives that they`d fought over Mr Irvine`s dog urinating in his home and after scuffling over a poker, McClurg said he could have hit his friend "one time - I could have hit him 101 times."

Delta Goodrem to spend time in US with her tennis ace - 2004-02-10
She tried, but Delta Goodrem could not keep her US rendezvous with Mark Philippoussis confidential.

As the Scud winged his way to California – with the Greek letter delta plastered on his wedding finger – Goodrem became coy.

Asked if she planned to meet Philippoussis in the US, Goodrem feigned surprise and said: "Is he on his way back here? Oh Goodness!"

But the young star, who is battling cancer, could not maintain her poker face and conceded she was planning to spend some time with the tennis ace.
