An east Belfast man who killed his "only true friend"
in a drunken dispute over a dog was sentenced for eight years in jail today on condition he serves a further three years probation upon his release.
The 41-year-old alcoholic Robert McClurg had pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of his 38-year-old neighbour and friend Glen Irvine on the grounds
of diminished responsibility.
The father of two confessed to detectives that they`d fought over Mr Irvine`s dog urinating in his home and after scuffling over a poker, McClurg said he could have hit his friend "one time - I could have hit him 101 times."
