The stakes were high, the tension thick -- an unexpectedly compelling combination that drew hundreds of people to Drexler's Barbecue to watch the hottest trend in sports, celebrity poker.

"Celebrity poker is hot. It's a great game. You just got to get lucky. You need the cards, baby," said former Houston Rocket Clyde Drexler.

Once upon a time it was the "Battle of the Network Stars," before it was "Home Run Derby," "Celebrity Boxing" and the XFL. Now it's poker, the most recent pseudo sport to take various dimly lit clusters of your satellite uplink by storm.

NBC will televise the World Poker Tour Tournament of Champions from Las Vegas this afternoon while CBS is thigh-pad deep into its Super Bowl pregame telethon. The concept -- poker, not interminable pregame blather -- isn't exactly original thinking.
