A wise man once said about the game of poker, you've got to know when to hold'em, know when to fold'em, know when to walk away, know when to run.

As World Poker Tour founder Steve Lipscomb learned, you've also got to know how to film'em.

Lipscomb spent months getting rejected as he attempted to sell a poker series to every channel in the TV business.

History was against him. Poker tournaments had been televised off and on for decades, but without a way for the audience to see the players' hole cards, it was, as professional Texas Hold'Em player Annie Duke puts it, "like watching paint dry."

Province's Poker Players Sharpest - 2004-01-09
Northern Ireland poker players were today named as the best players in the UK, pipping the intelligentsia of London to the top spot.

The research - the first of its kind - comes from a comprehensive study of more than 10,000 regular UK online Poker players.

For every £1,000 staked, Northern Ireland players win an additional £19.30 compared to the national average, and a whopping £37.20 more than Poker players from Yorkshire and Humberside, the region with the poorest Poker players in the UK.
