There's something about moving to a new place that makes you take stock of your life. It makes you really consider what needs to be taken from one place to another and what you can throw away.

It makes you focus on what you truly need to be happy.

And while on this topic, I found at least a half-dozen Christmas presents I'd bought for my daughter during the year and hid away from her, only to hide them even more effectively from myself.

But of all the discoveries, the most wonderful one was the level of comfort I found with my daughter, one that didn't require background noise. We read or played poker or giggled in our own temporary viewing blackout.

Poker players in Northern Ireland have been named the best in the UK in an extensive study of the card game.

Ulster card players are making more money than any of their UK opponents when playing poker online.

For every £1,000 staked, gamblers in the Province win £19.30 more than the national average.

And Ulster's card sharps will particularly enjoy lining up against opponents from Yorkshire and Humberside, as the study showed they are the poorest players.
