'He embraced life with a hug' - 2004-01-06
Friends, coworkers and students of coach and special- education teacher Michael Leighton focused on the love of life he inspired rather than his slaying during a memorial service and dinner Monday night.

The nearly 300 attendees at St. Lawrence Korean Catholic Church howled in laughter and cried for the loss of the big Ohio boy with no body hair and a bad haircut, the shifty poker player who loved Christmas, and the food lover whose smile was as wide as his shoulders.

Ho-Chunk members talk to casino foes - 2004-01-06
If the casino is approved, Madison and Dane County will each get approximately $3.5 million a year, perhaps much more, from the Ho-Chunk, indefinitely. Mayor Dave Cieslewicz is against expanded gambling, but County Executive Kathleen Falk is in favor and has said she would use the money for property tax relief and human services.

Ho-Chunk members attended Monday's meeting and addressed the crowd after questions arose about why the tribe may get the right to develop DeJope into a casino offering games such as poker, blackjack and roulette.
