The popularity of online poker has skyrocketed in 2003, with £38m bet on a daily basis in December by gamblers around the world.

According to Ladbrokespoker.com, daily online poker betting increased from £6m in January 2003 to £38m in December, while £15bn was spent during the entire year.

Around 150 online poker rooms operate today compared with just 30 in 2002.

The company claims that 29 per cent of the UK population plays at least one form of poker online.

Van Patten Goes All In on 'Poker Dogs' - 2004-01-05
Televised poker has been very very good to Vince Van Patten and he's not prepared to cash in all his chips just yet. The actor and television host has signed on to create and host "Poker Dogs," a reality show set in the world of competitive poker.

LMNO Prods. is shopping the series to both networks and cable buyers, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "Poker Dogs" would showcase professional poker players in elimination-style showdowns for significant cash prizes.

"Poker players by their nature are natural storytellers," says Eric Schotz, head of LMNO.
