Tournament poker can certainly be rewarding, and for the right player it can be so on quite a regular basis. But success requires a significantly different skill set -- and a different kind of emotional stability -- than that required for money play.

In a tournament, if you suffer what's called a bad beat (an unusually unlucky loss), the most you can lose is your entry fee. (You also lose your shot at the big prize, but at least you don't go into your wallet for lots more money).

Setback For No Pokies Crusade - 2004-01-31
The future of Nick Xenophon's No Pokies Campaign is in jeopardy following a Supreme Court ruling which left him liable for possibly crippling court costs. However, in what Mr. Xenophon termed a "bitter-sweet vindication", the State Government is poised to close the legal loophole responsible for his predicament.

The Supreme Court yesterday ruled Mr. Xenophon had no right to appeal against a decision from the Licensing Commissioner to the Licensing Court.

Justice Ted Mullighan ruled the Gaming Machines Act did not allow objectors to poker machines to appeal a decision – only a person who was the subject of the decision.
