Sheriff's Police Seize Poker Machines From 11 Businesses - 2004-01-31
Cook County Sheriff's police confiscated 46 video poker machines over the weekend from almost a dozen south suburban businesses suspected of paying off on the games, authorities said.

The raids were conducted Friday night and Saturday afternoon on establishments in Blue Island, Chicago Heights, Dolton, Lemont, Lynwood, Midlothian, South Chicago Heights, Stickney and other areas, Cook County Sheriff's Police spokesman Bill Cunningham said.

Oregon Pays Lottery Sites Larger Share, Audit Finds - 2004-01-31
The Oregon State Lottery pays retailers a larger share than similar operations do, a state auditors' report shows, a finding that could bolster a long-standing drive to lower the compensation that bars and taverns get for carrying video poker machines.

Oregon retailers receive on average 32 percent of the net proceeds from video poker -- about $159 million last fiscal year -- according to the report published Thursday by the secretary of state's Audits Division. In contrast, the cut ranged from 15 percent to 25 percent in eight Canadian lottery provinces where auditors deemed the systems were most similar to Oregon's.
