World Poker Tour Events Continue Dramatic Growth - 2004-01-28
The Jack Binion World Poker Open at Horseshoe Casino/ Gold Strike Casino in Tunica, MS which started on January 26, 2004, is the most recent event on the World Poker Tour to exemplify the domino effect of the television show's huge success.

367 players signed up for this week's event, which will culminate on January 29, 2004 with the filming of the Final Table for broadcast as part of the World Poker Tour series on The Travel Channel. World Poker Tour airs every Wednesday night at 9 p.m. ET/PT on the network. Many faces familiar to the WPT turned out for this event, including fan favorites Gus Hansen, Ben Affleck, Lou Diamond Phillips, Annie Duke, Chris Fergueson, and Howard Lederer.

Opposition Claims Loddon Missing Out On Poker Machine Cash - 2004-01-28
The Victorian Opposition has accused the State Government of duping central Victorians out of nearly $200 million in gaming profits. Gaming spokesman Ken Smith said poker machines in Castlemaine, Maldon, Maryborough, Bendigo and most neighboring towns took $191.8 million in the past four years.

However, Mr. Smith said the area had received only $940,000 from the Community Support Fund, set up to distribute the pokies money.

“It is not good enough a community that lost more than $191 million received a measly $940,000 back to assist the community and residents with gambling problems,” he said.
