Illinois Mob-Controlled Video Gambling Grows - 2004-01-27
There has been an alarming growth in mob-controlled video gambling, according to the Cook County sheriff's office.

"Taverns used to tuck a single machine in the corner. Now, they line up four or more machines 'like a mini-casino,' a sheriff's spokesman said. Most games are video poker or push-button slot machines.

"In weekend gambling raids, sheriff's police seized 46 video gambling machines from 11 bars and restaurants.

Police raid 3 businesses, snap up 116 eight-liners - 2004-01-27
Three eight-liner businesses were raided Friday afternoon and one man was arrested on gambling charges.

Members of the Panhandle Regional Narcotics Trafficking Task Force, the Amarillo Police Department SWAT team and bicycle officers conducted raids and confiscated 116 machines and $36,000 from 4217 Canyon Drive, 3805 E. Amarillo Blvd., and 3510 E. 11th Ave.

An eight-liner machine is either a video slot or poker machine, similar to what one might find in legal gambling casinos across the U.S., explained Cpl. Jerry Neufeld of the Amarillo Police Department.
