Town wants another chance at video poker vote - 2004-01-23
The northeastern Louisiana town of Richwood wants another opportunity to bring in video poker.

Mayor Edward Harris said the town is advertising its intent, which is obligatory by law, and is seeking a lawmaker to introduce the legislation. Similar legislation failed the past two years.

Ouachita Parish voted out video poker in 1996 during parish-by-parish referendums on the future of gambling. There currently is no provision to bring back video poker, except on a parishwide basis.

Man Fatally Shot While Playing Poker Game With Friends - 2004-01-23
Conroe police are hoping witnesses have more information for them on a killer who targeted a man during a poker game.

Investigators say 10 to 15 people were playing cards in an apartment when the gunman kicked in the door. He walked up to 38-year-old Mariano Cuevas-Gonzalez and shot him four times in the chest.

"The suspect apparently entered the apartment, walked up to the victim, and shot the victim and then left," said Sgt. Bob Berry with the Conroe Police Department.
