Settlement Allows Video Poker In Rock Hill - 2004-01-20
The Catawba Indian Nation is allowed to operate video poker gambling in South Carolina, says an opinion by the state Senate Judiciary Committee's legal staff.

State Sen. Brad Hutto, D-Orangeburg, requested the opinion and said he would use it to help clear the path for a high-stakes bingo hall at Santee.

The opinion said the state is barred by its Constitution from changing the conditions of a 1993 settlement of a tribal land claim that gave the Catawbas the right to operate two bingo halls in the state.
