SEEING A NEED Limited eyesight fails to dim man's... - 2004-01-17
Jim Ball has never had good eyesight, but his vision of life's possibilities has taken him on inumerable adventures, and his generosity has touched many lives along the way.

Born and raised about five miles outside Green Bay, the St. Francis resident has been visually handicapped since childhood. He has macular degeneration, a disease that affects the retinas, and 20/800 vision.

"He's very generous," stepdaughter-in-law Judy Miller said. "In some ways, I think it is to repay others for the attention to help him. He's legally blind and still functions, playing poker and cribbage as often as he is able to. I play with him and can sometimes hold my own."

Harrah's agrees to buy landmark hotel casino and continue World Series of Poker - 2004-01-17
Binion's Horseshoe Hotel & Casino, a downtown Las Vegas fixture for over five decades and home to the popular World Series of Poker, was closed down Saturday. On Monday, Harrah's secured the rights to the world's premier poker event as well as the casino's legendary name, and agreed to take responsibility for the property's debts.

A spokesman for Harrah's said Tuesday the tournament would take place this year, but could not say where.
