Parkersburg Trying to Curb the Increase of Lottery Cafes - 2004-01-14
Citizen complaints have resulted in a suggested ordinance in Parkersburg that now has some businesses crying foul.
City council passed on first reading a measure to curb gambling or games of chance, including video lottery, to 1,500 feet from residential areas, schools
and churches.
However, some effected businesses say the city has
not complied with state law concerning ordinance changes, and the ordinance is also too vague.
"For example, if someone wanted to play a poker game in a house at night, that's gaming. The ordinance as written is too broad", says attorney Pat McFarland.
