Soda gears up for Winter Carnival - 2004-01-13
The Winter Carnival returns Saturday to Soda Springs, with activities for everyone including children.

The carnival will offer traditional events, such as a fishing derby for which there is a cost, snow sculpturing and a snow machine poker run. In addition, special events for children are being organized for the first time, according to a news release.

Chairman for the Winter Carnival is Dave Mason, and sponsors include Clear Springs Foods Inc., Caribou Mud Racers and Caribou Trail Riders and the Soda Springs Chamber of Commerce.

Police Say Bar Dealt Out More Than Drinks - 2004-01-13
An employee of a Merchandise Mart bar on Tuesday
said no illegal gambling had taken place there, a day after three men including a manager were arrested and charged in connection with video poker machines.

Ernest Sanchez, 42, and Jack Hobbs, 35, were arrested Monday and charged with gambling at Dunphy's Bar & Grille, at 222 Merchandise Plaza, according to Near North District Officer Roger O'Brien.

Charlie Serrano, 44, the bar manager, was charged
with operating a gambling house, O'Brien said. Charges on all three men were misdemeanors.
