Gambling in sports is what wins games, gathers glory, generates celebrations and makes you a winner.

Isn't that a tricky little ESPN-era paradox? If it's a big game, we love risk-takers and bet-raisers. We cherish the all-or-nothing moment.

We nod when Fox's Jimmy Johnson rips cautious play-calling in the NFL playoffs and uses blackjack and poker as the closest strategic and spiritual comparisons. He's right. High-stakes sports action is the best.

Downtown brawl breaks out - 2004-01-12
Members of opposing motorcycle groups fought in a downtown alley Saturday afternoon, causing three small injuries, according to police and eyewitness statements.

While details were unclear, the melee involved members of the OutDwellers Motorcycle Club and the Vietnam Veterans and Legacy Veterans motorcycle clubs in the alley between Center and David Streets at approximately 3:30 p.m.

According to Pat Sweeney, the owner of the Wonder Bar and the Parkway Plaza Hotel, a group of about 20 OutDwellers had planned to come to the Wonder Bar on a "poker run," where the group goes to five locations and gets a playing card at each stop.
