Gambling Bill In Lawmaker's Plan - 2004-01-12
Representative's proposal includes slots, video poker and black jack. A Republican leader in the Kansas House promised Friday to sponsor a bill to allow slot machines at dog and horse tracks and state-owned casinos in Dodge City and close to Junction City.

Rep. John Ballou, R-Gardner, said he estimates his proposal would raise $150 million a year for the state. His plan would give the state between 33 percent and 39 percent of net revenues from the new gambling, which would include not only slot machines but also video poker and black jack machines at three dog and horse tracks plus the state-owned casinos.

Bingo would become slots - 2004-01-12
The Ho-Chunk Nation's proposal to transform a bingo hall into a casino would eliminate the 1,200-seat bingo hall to allow for hundreds of slot machines to be installed.

Dane County residents will vote in a Feb. 17 referendum on expanded gambling at DeJope Bingo Hall, allowing games such as slot machines, blackjack, poker and roulette.

If the referendum is approved and Gov. Jim Doyle authorizes a casino, the bingo hall will be replaced with 600 to 1,000 slot machines, said Gerald Cleveland, a tribal legislator for Ho-Chunk.
