Fans flock to new local card tourneys - 2004-01-12
As amateur poker tournaments become more popular in Wichita bars, state and local officials are trying to determine whether the games violate any laws.
Both the Sedgwick County district attorney's office and the Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control in Topeka admit that they are taking a closer look at the tournaments, which have appealed to hundreds of players in recent months.
"We are aware of it, and we are looking into it," said Sharon Werner, chief lawyer for the consumer fraud and economic crime division with the district attorney's office.
