From the moment he woke up each morning, Fred's mind focused on gambling.

First the 58-year-old from Northern Kentucky checked the late sports scores on TV and tallied his wins and losses. Then he called his bookie with bets for that night's games.

By late morning, he'd head out to the track to bet the horses, or to a poker game with some friends. If it was a weekend, he might drive to the casinos in Atlantic City.

By nightfall he was back in front of a TV, watching the games he'd bet on.

BETTOR END FOR BINION'S CASINO - 2004-01-11
The landmark Binion's Horseshoe Casino in Las Vegas was closed down yesterday - and guests at the popular gambling spot's hotel were bounced from their rooms - after federal agents raided the establishment and seized funds to pay for overdue employee benefits.

Gamblers in the middle of placing bets watched in astonishment as U.S. marshals carried out the takeover and shut down the floor to the casino, which has been a downtown Las Vegas fixture for 52 years and host to the televised World Series of Poker.

The front doors were later locked and yellow police tape greeted visitors - as guests at the Binion's hotel got the boot.
